Matthew Cutajar

Matthew’s main areas of practice comprise general civil and commercial law, as well as litigation and alternative dispute resolution, particularly in connection with matters relating to property law, development planning law, shipping and aviation as well as human rights and constitutional law. His work primarily involves the drafting of judicial acts in addition to representing clients before both the inferior and superior Courts and the Boards and Tribunals of Malta.
Matthew regularly advises clients on matters falling within the scope of his areas of practice and has in the past represented a number of international and local clients, including private and state entities, in high-profile cases having a constitutional, civil, or planning element. He has also assisted clients, including some of Malta’s foremost independent media platforms, in libel proceedings as well as in defending SLAPP suits and has represented several non-governmental organisations before the local Courts and Tribunals on a diverse set of disputes.
Prior to joining BCGL Advocates, Matthew was a senior associate at Mamo TCV Advocates, one of Malta’s top-tier law firms, having joined the firm back in June 2013. He was called to the Bar in 2015 and is a member of the Malta Chamber of Advocates. Matthew is also an active member of the Public Interest Litigation Network, Malta’s first non-governmental access-to-justice initiative which was set up by the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, and civil society network, Repubblika.
